Cooks Can Sink to New Levels

What is shiny and round and can clean, cut, steam, boil, poach and braise food? If you guessed a kitchen sink, we’d know you have insider information because Kohler, the Wisconsin company best known for its faucets, is just introducing the Pro CookSink.

Here’s how it works: Picture a double-basin sink, only in the center is a 15-inch-wide hole that can be used to cook food. Beneath the sink is a heater that can bring liquids to a temperature of 212 degrees Fahrenheit in just nine minutes. The boiling water drains with the touch of a button, and cleanup is easy because your cooking pans are already in the wash basin.

“The thought behind this product was that it breaks down barriers within the kitchen,” says Kohler spokeswoman Jill Cavil. “It increases efficiency in the kitchen by allowing a homeowner to prep their food, cook it and clean up all within a 36-inch area.”

Perhaps in the future we’ll be seeing even more hybridized utility-appliances. How about a laundry basket that doubles as a washing machine or a toaster that also butters the bread?
