Pack’s Double Helps Cypress Win in 11

Brandon Pack’s bases-loaded double with two outs in the 11th helped Cypress defeat Riverside, 5-3, in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Thursday at Riverside.

Cypress reliever Jon Fenoglio entered the game in the 11th with the bases loaded and two outs and got Wayne Stone to fly out to earn his first save.

Shaun Larkin and Matt Colin, who both singled, scored on Pack’s double in the 11th. Larkin went two for five with two RBIs and two runs scored for visiting Cypress (26-12, 13-7), which is a 1/2-game behind first-place Saddleback.

Riverside (24-14, 12-9) rallied with two runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to tie it, 3-3.

In other conference games:

Saddleback 21, Golden West 14--Jimmy Luster had four hits and drove in seven runs and Jason Marian had four hits, scored four runs and drove in five for host Saddleback.

Luster had a two-run single in the first, a two-run home run in the second, an RBI double and a two-run single during a seven-run eighth for Saddleback (29-11, 14-7). Luster has three home runs and 12 RBIs in two games this week and has 12 home runs and 68 RBIs this season.

Orange Coast 9, Santa Ana 2--Ryan Clark hit two home runs to move into a tie for the conference lead at 13 with teammate Brandon Thompson and Santa Ana’s Richard Lane.

John Coleman (4-2) had three strikeouts and no walks in seven innings to get the victory for OCC (24-17, 11-9).

At the Southern California Regional men’s tennis tournament:

Locals advance--Orange Coast’s Johan Ekstrom defeated eighth-seeded Damon Lucht of Marymount, 6-3, 6-1, in the second round at Industry Hills Tennis Club. Sixth-seeded John Cappello of Saddleback defeated Desert’s Jason Harman, 6-2, 6-2.

Fourth-seeded Erik Lundblad and Brock Berry of Saddleback advanced in doubles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

At the state swim meet:

Golden West leads--In the women’s competition, Rita Mariani won the 100 individual medley (59.26 seconds) and Kirsten Rich won the 50 freestyle (24.33) to help Golden West to a 38-point lead after the first of three days.

In the men’s competition, Vicha Razanachote won the 500 freestyle (1:50.18) to help the Rustlers finish the first day with 154 points. Cuesta is second with 130.
