Tustin’s Brown Will Play Volleyball at UCLA

Brook Brown, a three-sport standout at Tustin High, has signed to play volleyball at UCLA, Tustin Athletic Director Al Rosmino said.

Brown was an All-Golden West League first-team selection for three consecutive years in volleyball, basketball and softball.

Stephanie Sampson of Esperanza has signed to attend Long Beach State this fall and will throw the shotput and discus next spring, her father, Bill, said.

Sampson was the field athlete of the meet at the Orange County Championships Saturday after winning the discus and finishing second in the shotput. She has been invited to the U.S. Junior National championships in June in Denton, Texas, and will attend the U.S. Junior Olympics training camp in Chula Vista in August.

Laguna Hills senior Ashley Furst will run track at Harvard next season, her father, Bruce, said. Furst was all-county in the 400 meters last season and later finished second in the 800 at the Division III final. Furst was second in the 400 at last Saturday’s county championships and currently has the second-best mark in that event (58.12).

Marcene Guerrero, a point guard at Calvary Chapel who helped the Eagles win the section’s Division IV title, has committed to play next season at Azusa Pacific, her father, Vincent, said.

Guerrero averaged 11.3 points and 4.6 assists for Calvary Chapel.

Tara Moore has signed with Grand Canyon College, where she will join two other former Westminster basketball players, Janet Glasby and Kristin Schulte, Lion Coach Dick Katz said.

Moore, a 5-9 forward and the school’s all-time single-season scoring (492 points) and career rebound (619) leader, averaged 17.8 points, and 6.8 rebounds for Westminster.
