South County Senior Services, a Laguna Woods-based nonprofit organization providing care for elderly residents of south Orange County, must raise $100,000 to sustain its “Meals on Wheels” program in the coming year, said Executive Director Marilyn Ditty at a reception last week. The ambitious fund-raising goal--$15,000 more than was brought in last year--is to accommodate the aging South County population, which has increased by 15% since 1995, according to Saddleback Memorial Medical Center statistics. Siemann said the center must subsidize some of the meals because many seniors are unable to pay the recommended $5-a-meal donation.
