L.A. County Lifeguards Ranked 1st Again in U.S.
For the 15th straight year, Los Angeles County lifeguards proved they were the best in the country, as they won the annual National Lifeguard Championship.
The score was close for much of the two-day event held in Cape May, N.J., but Los Angeles County pulled away in Saturday’s competition to finish with a score of 674.
Monmouth County, N.J., took second place with a score of 555, contest spokesman Michael Kula said.
Another California team also fared well. San Diego placed fourth with 140 points in the 29th annual installment of the contest, organized by the United States Lifesaving Assn.
More than 900 professional lifeguards participated in the contest.
