Aid for Friend
Heartfelt thanks to staff writers Bonnie Harris and Jack Leonard for a beautiful and touching story (“Old Teammates’ Bonds Turn Into Lifeline,” Aug. 5) about Arnie Futagaki, who has Lou Gehrig’s disease, and his Golden West College football buddies who have rallied to his side. Futagaki’s good friends from over 30 years ago, upon hearing of his illness, helped repair his home in Fountain Valley, arranged for at-home nursing care and are helping to raise much-needed funds for his support. They also provided important emotional support with their camaraderie. It caused me to shed some “happy tears.”
One can easily get cynical in today’s world by learning about all the negative and dreary things taking place, but this article was a veritable breath of fresh air. It renewed my faith in my fellow man.
