FOCUS: ORANGE COUNTY COMMUNITY NEWS : MISSION VIEJO
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has begun issuing citations to skateboarders riding without helmets at the city’s newly opened skate park.
Lt. Stan Jacquot, Mission Viejo’s chief of police services, said the police are trying to set the tone early to let users know that the helmet law will be strictly enforced at the park. Skateboarders riding in the park without helmets have been told to leave and officers have begun giving tickets to those who have to be warned a second time.
Skaters using the park said the police have been coming by almost every half-hour to check on the facility and make sure helmets are being worn.
