Bruins Won’t Be Idle During Layoff
The Bruins went from their 61-point victory over Morgan State directly into their longest break of the season, a span of 10 days without a game that will include intensive scrimmages for a team that needs to get in better condition.
Coach Steve Lavin plans at least four pseudo-games before UCLA next plays, Dec. 11 against Gonzaga, doing his best to create an atmosphere greater than a practice. Pacific 10 Conference referees will be brought in, the sides will wear actual home and road uniforms, the scoreboards will be used and the action will be taped for review.
“Probably by playing one another, we’ll get a much better measuring stick than we have to this point playing Fairfield, Iona and Morgan State,” Lavin said.
Said forward JaRon Rush of the schedule, “Four hours--whew. Just running and working hard. Nobody looks forward to that. But it’s going to be good for us.”

UCLA has scored at least 100 points in consecutive games for the first time in a little more than five years, since 1994-95 when it played California and Duke.
This is only the third such instance since 1980. No Bruin team has scored 100 or more three times in succession since the 1971-72 club hit triple digits the first seven outings and 12 times in all en route to a 30-0 record and a national title.
