A Hopper New Year
It’s grasshopper-eating time in Uganda. During December, tens of thousands of grasshoppers swarm into Kampala, the capital city, after seasonal rains. Everyone, from the wealthy to vagrants, gathers under street lights, which attract the nutritious bright-green insects. Once caught, the grasshoppers are stripped of their wings and legs and fried as a snack to go with beer.
Another Senseless Chocolate Accident A 1,320-pound full-sized chocolate replica of a Grand Prix racing car was smashed into hundreds of pieces just hours before it was to be displayed as the star attraction at a London exhibition. The chocolate sculpture, which took 400 hours to create and cost 40,000 ($64,000), was damaged while being transported from France by truck.
