Galley Has Grand Time During Game
There was Garry Galley, in the starting lineup alongside Rob Blake on defense.
Ten seconds later, there was Galley, skating off the ice and into the record books, having played in his 1,000th NHL game.
Blake was playing in his 500th.
Most of the rest of the night, Galley was skating alongside Steve Duchesne, with Blake and Mattias Norstrom, as usual, comprising a twosome.
The evening offered a collision of emotions for Galley, who played 233 of his 1,000 games as a Flyer.
“If I couldn’t do this at home in front of the family, this is where I wanted to do it,” he said.
He even added a point, an assist on Donald Audette’s goal with 48 seconds to play in the 4-2 loss. Galley has seven assists to go with his three goals.
“But that’s not the point we need,” he said. “We need the two points that go with a win.”
Instead, they got another loss, sliding further from a playoff spot.
“The buildup to all of this was great,” he said of playing in No. 1,000. “It means a lot to me. I’ll never be a 500-goal scorer or a 1,000-point guy. But to play consistently, night after night, is important to me.”
Galley is the second King to play in his 1,000th game this season. Doug Bodger accomplished the feat Oct. 25 at Carolina.

Winger Glen Murray, out since Jan. 2 because of a torn knee ligament, has passed a strength test and been fitted with a brace that will be ready Wednesday.
Once that is accomplished, Murray will be permitted light skating sessions with an idea that he could return in two weeks.
His injury, suffered in a game against Colorado, had been deemed serious enough to cost him at least eight weeks of playing time.
Murray, who has missed 12 games, is still the Kings’ second-leading scorer, with 15 goals and 28 points.
