PLACENTIA
Councilwoman Maria Moreno unveiled plans at Tuesday’s council meeting to help combat gang activity by starting a La Familia pilot program on the south side of the city. She said she will set up the program by March. La Familia is a nonprofit gang-intervention program that provides a variety of services, from counseling to job training, she said.
Additionally, Moreno said she is starting a blue ribbon committee made up of community members, counselors, academics and activists to help develop intervention resources for the public. “We’re not looking for a Band-Aid solution,” she said. “These are programs for the community. We’re trying to meet the needs of the people. . . . They need the tools to get them ahead in life.”
