Louisville Cleared for Postseason Play

In an unprecedented move, the NCAA on Friday overturned a postseason ban, giving Louisville’s basketball team a chance to play in a March tournament this season.

An NCAA appeals committee cited “procedural error” in the case of NCAA violations by former Louisville assistant coach Scooter McCray.

The committee said Louisville and McCray had not been adequately warned about the seriousness of the violations, and that may have altered their defense before the NCAA.

There have been changes in the injury report for No. 1 Connecticut for today’s game against No. 4 Stanford, with high-scoring Richard Hamilton expected to miss the game and 6-foot-11 center Jake Voskuhl cleared to play.

“[Hamilton], I’d say, is very doubtful,” Connecticut Coach Jim Calhoun said. “Jake will definitely play.”

Hamilton, one of the leading contenders for national player of the year, tried to practice Friday in Palo Alto but felt a pull in his bruised thigh and stopped.

Earlier this week, Calhoun had expected Hamilton to be OK but was concerned about going against Stanford’s front line without Voskuhl, the Huskies’ leading rebounder and best interior defender.
