Temecula Valley Steps Up
Temecula Valley won its fifth consecutive Southern Section dual-meet wrestling championship by defeating top-seeded Santa Ana Calvary Chapel, 36-31, in the Division I final Saturday at Temecula Valley High.
Tony Berg’s pin of Calvary Chapel’s Peter Mosley in the 189-pound weight class was the deciding match for Temecula Valley, which won the last four Division II championships before moving to Division I this season.
Calvary Chapel had won seven consecutive dual-meet section titles, including the last four in Division I.
Tyler Moran got Temecula Valley off to a good start at the 103-pound division by beating Anthony Archuleta, 5-1. Patrick Meredith edged Conan Williams, 5-4, to win another key match at 145 pounds for Temecula Valley.
“Ten days ago Meredith was getting shut out (10-0) in the Canyon Springs tournament,” Temecula Valley Coach Arnold Alpert said. “His win was huge.”
