Northridge Cashes In Washington Mistakes
Cal State Northridge parlayed three errors, two wild pitches and three passed balls by Washington into a 9-4 victory in a nonconference baseball game Saturday at Northridge.
Washington (4-1) is ranked 23rd in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN coaches’ poll.
Jim DeBiase (4-0) allowed three runs and seven hits in five innings for the Matadors (9-9). He struck out five and walked three, and yielded home runs to Dominic Woody and Pete Orgill.
Trevor Gray allowed one run and three hits in four innings to earn his second save.
Dan Phillips hit a three-run home run, his eighth homer of the season, to highlight a four-run fifth inning for Northridge.
The Master’s 27, British Columbia 7--Aaron Penberthy extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a double, home run and four runs batted in for the Mustangs 10-3-1) in a nonconference game at Master’s.
Orange Coast 2, Canyons 1--Jeremy Shields pitched a three-hitter and Cory Briggs had two hits to stretch his hitting streak to eight games but the Cougars (3-7) lost in the Cypress tournament.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Ventura def. Oxnard by forfeit--The Pirates (28-3, 10-0 in Western State Conference play) won when Oxnard had only four players.
