Re “Hype Over Trigger Locks Provokes Fear of Firearm Accidents,” Feb. 16: Skeptics of the trigger-lock law foresee that saving only 10 to 20 child deaths per year may not be worth the effort and expense of the $2 devices? A law school professor claims that more children accidentally drown in water buckets each year than the 220 children under the age of 15 killed at home last year in handgun accidents, thus the inconvenience does not justify their requirement? Activists claim it may take years for gun owners to learn how to use the devices and of their potential benefits?

We need to examine the history of handgun control in England or Japan and realize that 15,000 annual handgun deaths are abhorrent in a civilized society.
