$25,000 Reward Offered in Slaying of Girl, 17
PASADENA — The City Council has approved offering up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer of 17-year-old Maria Isabel Fernandez.
Police are searching for the suspect, Johnny Ortiz, a 27-year-old Chino resident who was Fernandez’s boyfriend, officials said.
Fernandez, a Pasadena City College student, was found stabbed to death in her home on Feb. 5. Ortiz disappeared following the murder; his car was recovered in San Diego, said police spokeswoman Janet Pope.
According to the victim’s father, Ortiz speaks no English and is a Colombian national, Pope said. Authorities do not know whether he is still in the country.
