School Board Names Human Relations Chief
LOS ANGELES — Edward Negrete Jr., a professor of education with expertise in promoting ethnic coalitions, was appointed Tuesday by the Los Angeles Board of Education to be director of its new Human Relations Education Commission.
Negrete, 58, an associate professor with Cal State Los Angeles’ Charter School of Education, is expected to take his post sometime in April and will draw an annual salary of about $85,000. He will report directly to the board.
The commission, which will operate with six full-time advisors and an annual budget of about $800,000, was created to replace eight ethnic education commissions abolished by the board nearly a year ago.
