Seven County Teams Will Stay Close to Home
Seven of 11 Southern Section girls’ basketball playoff games involving Orange County teams will be played locally Saturday night.
Brea Olinda (26-3), which is looking for its 11th consecutive section title, will meet Canyon (24-5) in a Division II-AA semifinal game at Villa Park High. In the division’s other semifinal, Foothill (26-3) travels to Westlake Village Westlake High to face Moorpark (25-2).
Third-seeded Edison (24-5) hosts Mater Dei (21-5) in a Division I-A quarterfinal at Huntington Beach High. The Monarchs defeated the Chargers, 56-46, in a nonleague game Jan. 24.
In other Division I-A quarterfinals, San Clemente (21-8) plays top-seeded Riverside North (26-2) at Moreno Valley Valley View High, and defending division champion Marina (25-3) hosts Ventura Buena (24-3) at Ocean View High. Marina will be without starting guard Karyn Fierst, who broke her ankle during Thursday’s practice. Buena is making its 21st consecutive quarterfinal appearance.
Fontana Miller (20-6) and second-seeded El Toro (21-4) meet in a Division I-AA quarterfinal at Capistrano Valley High, and Capistrano Valley Christian (21-4) hosts Riverside Woodcrest Christian (17-7) in Division V-AA quarterfinal.
In other semifinals, fourth-seeded Santa Margarita (20-9) hosts top-seeded La Puente Bishop Amat (24-2) at Irvine Valley College in a Division II-A game, top-seeded Rosary (20-8) plays Brawley (16-4) at Servite High in Division III-AA, third-seeded Costa Mesa (19-10) is at Inglewood High to meet second-seeded Inglewood Morningside (19-9) in Division III-A, and third-seeded Calvary Chapel (23-5) plays second-seeded Playa del Rey St. Bernard (17-3) at El Segundo High in a Division IV-A game.
All games begin at 7:30 p.m.

Mater Dei officials said tonight’s Division I-A quarterfinal boys’ basketball playoff game against Moreno Valley will be at Ocean View High. Tipoff is 7:30.
