Education Foundation Presents Awards
* The Simi Valley Education Foundation has announced the winners of its seventh annual awards, which recognize “extraordinary work done on behalf of the students of the Simi Valley School District.”
From Simi Valley High School, Principal Terry Web and teacher Rob Collins were awarded the memorial Lew Roth Award. Also receiving recognition were Marianne Boerem, an instructional aide at Royal High School; Brett Robinson, a volunteer at Justin Elementary School; and Comcast Cablevision for work at Santa Susana Elementary School.
Lew Roth, who died in 1991, created the foundation in 1990. Roth served 23 years on the Simi Valley school board and was involved in education on the county and state levels.
Simi Youth Club Names Board Officers
* The Boys & Girls Club of Camarillo has announced officers on the board of directors. They are President David Smith, President-elect Maggie Kildee, Vice President Sue Menzie, Secretary Alice Madrid and Treasurer Jim Williams. Immediate past President Pat Richards will serve on the Executive Committee, and Gary Uyemura was installed as a new member of the board.
Chamber Gives Award to Gallegly
* Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley) was awarded the 1999 Spirit of Enterprise Award by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes Gallegly’s “strong support for pro-business policies and legislation in the 105th Congress.” The chamber based its choice on rankings it gives members of Congress in its annual publication “How They Voted.”
