‘Tobacco King’ Gets Life in Prison

A cigarette-maker with the moniker “Tobacco King” was sentenced to life in prison for helping to embezzle more than $3.5 million. Chu Shijian, former president and chairman of Yuxi Hongta Tobacco Co., stole the money from the company in 1995 with the help of two subordinates, the official New China News Agency said. The cigarette company, Asia’s largest multinational tobacco firm, has its headquarters in Kunming, the capital of southwestern Yunnan province.
