Choices for Adults

* The Jan. 3 letters from Marc Martin, Santa Ana fire chief, and the parents from Village View Elementary School seem to share a common theme, that adults can’t be trusted to make their own decisions.

The fact that some people will use fireworks or alcohol in an irresponsible manner should not put them off-limits to everyone. People have to take personal responsibility for their own choices. And the Puritanical view that since alcohol is a drug it’s bad is absurd. Aspirin is a drug; penicillin is a drug; used properly, they have many benefits.

Now that we know that moderate use of alcohol is beneficial, maybe this black-and-white view of the world can be put to rest.
