More Gifts
* No matter how one feels about the impeachment trial, your Jan. 7 article buried on Page 12 should make us ponder the issue of partisan politics. The headline read, “House Loosens Ban on Gifts to Lawmakers.” Representatives, in a bipartisan vote, decided to allow themselves more gifts from individuals and all-expenses-paid trips from corporations and lobbyists. The House Ethics Committee had been “overwhelmed” by requests for exemptions to the 1995 ban on such gifts.
Amazing. Congress acted in a totally partisan manner during the impeachment inquiry and none of the country’s business was conducted. Yet they were able to “cross the aisle” for their own perks. I am disgusted by them all.
