Global Crossing Signs Deal With Lucent
Global Crossing Ltd., the developer of a high-capacity global fiber-optic network, said it has signed an agreement with Lucent Technologies Inc., the Murray Hill, N.J.-based communications giant, that will give Global access to Lucent’s technology for fiber-optic systems. Terms were not disclosed. “The deregulation of global markets, advances in telecommunications, and the explosive growth of the Internet are creating enormous demand for bandwidth,” said Jack Scanlon, chief executive of Global Crossing, which has its holding company based in Los Angeles and its operations based in Bermuda.
