SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The reviews are in on a new spot for women’s apparel in the San Fernando Valley, and they are raves.

Magnolia Place, in operation only five months, is a find. It’s cozy, well-organized and well-stocked. Yes, it’s used clothes, but everything is clean and in excellent condition. This is not a consignment store; owners and sisters-in-law Linda and Bunny Franzle buy outright, and they are very selective. Longtime resale shoppers, they seem very in tune with what today’s bargain hunters are looking for.

This is like a Discovery Shop for the “Ally McBeal” crowd. Some classic stuff, but more of the new trendy styles. Among the labels on the racks: Ann Taylor, Evan Picone, Gap, Jones New York, The Limited, Guess, Liz Claiborne, Max Studio, DKNY, Esprit, Sue Wong, CDC and Rampage.

And among the prices in sizes that range from 2 to 16: a Kenar coat dress, $15; a Liz Claiborne denim dress, $15; Max Studio rayon slip dress, $12; Oleg Cassini suit, $28, and Sue Wong suits, $20 and $34.

An Evan Picone wool jacket for $38 was hard to resist, and green corduroy slacks from Gap at $10 were impossible to pass up. I think you’ll react the same way to Magnolia Place. Also seen, an Esprit handbag at $10 and a raft of shoes--Bruno Magli, Nine West, Ann Taylor and Nina--priced from $2 to $15.

I predict this soon will become a regular spot for savvy shoppers, many of whom haunt resale shops, always on the hunt for great-looking clothes at wonderful prices.
