Hot-Shooting Titans Win Big West Game
Andrea Thieme scored 28 points as Cal State Fullerton defeated Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 88-80, Saturday in Big West Conference women’s basketball at Fullerton.
It was the first conference victory for the Titans, who led by as many as 17 and shot 52% from the field and a season-high 55% from three-point range (11 of 20). Erin Whiteside had 18 points, Rhonda Anderson scored 13, and Kristina Naumovic 11 for the Titans. Natscha Stokely had a game-high 13 rebounds for the Titans (3-16, 1-7).
Kristie Griffin scored 15 to lead the Mustangs (8-10, 2-5).
In other Big West Conference women’s basketball:
No. 25 UC Santa Barbara 85, UC Irvine 59--UC Irvine (8-11, 4-4) led, 24-22, with 6:16 left in the first half, but the Gauchos went on a 16-7 run to take a 38-31 lead.
Chelsea Mackey scored 17 points and had eight rebounds for Irvine. Megan Stafford had 17 points and nine assists.
Kristi Rohr scored 21 points to lead Santa Barbara (15-3, 6-0).
In nonconference baseball:
Concordia 2-5, The Master’s 1-2--Junior Matt Broesamle (Costa Mesa HS) gave up one run on five hits in seven innings for Concordia (2-2-1) in the first game. The Eagles’ Justin Duke hit a game-winning homer in the fourth.
In the six-inning second game, Jimmy Pickel pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up one run on five hits, and struck out five for the Eagles.
In the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball:
Pepperdine 3, UC Irvine 0--UC Irvine (3-4, 2-3) suffered its first loss in four matches, as fifth-ranked Pepperdine defeated the Anteaters, 15-11, 15-6, 15-8.
Senior George Roumain had 30 kills and an 80.6 hitting percentage to lead the Waves (6-0, 4-0). Senior J.J. Riley had 63 assists, three digs and two blocks.
Junior Josh Richardson had 14 kills for the Anteaters.
