Kasich May End White House Bid
WASHINGTON — Rep. John R. Kasich, an Ohio Republican, is considering ending his longshot drive for the White House soon, party sources said Saturday.
They said Kasich, chairman of the House Budget Committee, intended to decide soon whether to compete in the Aug. 14 Republican straw poll in Iowa or end his campaign before the nonbinding but traditionally pivotal contest.
“It is too soon to say it is over, but John is trying to figure out if it is worth going on,” one source said. The source said other Republican White House contenders were likely to be reassessing their candidacies too.
Polls have consistently found Kasich running far behind the rest of the Republican presidential field. A June 25-27 Gallup survey had him in seventh place, with the support of just 3% of party voters.
