OCC’s New Courses Examine Jesus’ Times, Eastern Religions
Orange Coast College will offer two new religious studies courses this fall. Students may learn about the life of Christ in the course “Life and Times of Jesus,” and the religions of Asia in the course “Eastern Thought.”
“Life and Times of Jesus” presents a study of the historical situation of the world of Jesus’ day and the outlines of his life and teaching. The class will also explore how Judaism and the Greek and Roman worlds shaped Christianity.
“Eastern Thought” focuses on Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. The course will look at the historical background and current status of each fath, and students will examine scriptures from each religion.
Both courses offer three units’ credit and are transferable to the University of California and California State University systems. Enrollment fees are $11 per unit. Both classes begin Aug. 16.
Fall registration is under way, and registration appointments are available in the college’s admissions office. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Fridays. Registration information: (714) 432-5072.
