Chaminade Passes Test, Advances to Final, 1-0
It’s finals week at Chaminade High, so it might be appropriate that the Eagles will be playing in one.
The Eagles qualified for their first Southern Section championship game by defeating Fullerton Rosary, 1-0, in a Division IV semifinal Tuesday at Lions Field in Fullerton.
Top-seeded Chaminade (24-6-1) will play unseeded Bloomington on Friday or Saturday at Mayfair Park in Lakewood.
Chaminade won its 20th consecutive game and avenged a 1-0 loss to Rosary last season in the semifinals.
Third baseman Erin Taylor, who has committed to Miami of Ohio, slugged a double to left-center in the third inning to drive in freshman Shannon Barceloux.
Stanford-bound right-hander Maureen LeCocq (22-2) struck out six and allowed two hits to claim her 13th consecutive shutout.
Chaminade’s defense turned in several key plays.
Taylor made a diving stab of a line drive by Lauren McIntosh. Catcher Lauren Rousselet made a diving catch of Danielle Guerra’s foul pop-up with two runners on base in the second, then threw out Erin Hogan attempting to steal third moments later.
