Suspect Arrested in Series of Bank Robberies
REDONDO BEACH — Ever wonder where bank robbers stash their loot?
Redondo Beach police said they nabbed a suspect who deposited into his bank account what they believe to be the proceeds from eight recent heists at other banks in the South Bay.
“He also used his ATM card to buy narcotics,” Redondo Beach Police Capt. Steve Murdoch said Wednesday.
Murdoch said officers arrested Phillip Mathew Vincent, 36, of Redondo Beach after a two-week investigation by police, the FBI and detectives from LA IMPACT, a multi-jurisdictional team. Police believe that Vincent was responsible for a string of robberies since September.
How did police get a break in the case?
“We circulated his picture at all the banks in the area--and his own bank, which had not been robbed, recognized him,” Murdoch said. Officials did not identify Vincent’s bank.
After his arrest, Vincent was turned over to the FBI pending federal bank robbery charges, Murdoch said.
