USSF Western Championships Set This Weekend in Huntington Beach

The U.S. Surfing Federation Western Region Championships begin Saturday with 150 surfers competing in division of shortboard, longboard, bodyboard and kneeboard events on the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier.

Age groups from 12-and-under to 54-and-over will compete. The championship round takes place on Sunday, with the top finalist advancing to the USSF’s National Championships next month in Oceanside.

In the open men’s division, Dan Kernion of Leucadia and Jason Billings of San Diego lead the field. Rick Fignetti of Huntington Beach will be defending his title in the senior men’s division. Competition starts at 7 a.m. both days and admission is free.
