Ze’Marco de Melo and Ricardo Santos defeated fellow Brazilians, Emanuel Scheffer and Jose Loiola, 15-10, in the gold-medal match in the $500,000 Labatt Blue Toronto Open FIVB beach volleyball tournament. The winners split $30,000.

San Clemente’s Karch Kiraly, who was seeking a record 140th title, and partner Adam Johnson (Laguna Beach High) lost to de Melo and Santos in the semifinals, 15-9. Rob Heidger and Kevin Wong defeated Kiraly and Johnson in the bronze-medal match, 16-14.

In the women’s tournament, Holly McPeak and Nancy Reno defeated Shelda Bede and Adriana Behar of Brazil, 15-8, in the final.
