NEWPORT BEACH
Those scrambling for funds to restore the historic Balboa Theater got good news this week when a local construction company agreed to donate its services. Costa Mesa-based Birtcher Construction Services, which has built movie theaters representing more than 1,000 screens across the country, will lend its expertise to the cause. The $1-million rehabilitation project includes making the old building earthquake-safe and remodeling the entire interior.
