Crescenta Valley Hands Muir Girls First Dual-Meet Loss in 16 Years
Sonia Teymouri led a sweep of the distance events and Crescenta Valley High handed Muir its first girls’ track and field dual-meet loss since 1983 on Tuesday.
Teymouri won the 1,600-meter run in 5:37.2 seconds and the 800 in 2:30.3, leading the Falcons to a 65-62 victory at Muir.
Crescenta Valley’s Amber Nefas posted a career best of 35 feet, 3 1/2 inches in the triple jump. She also won the long jump at 15-10 and finished second in the 400.
In another girls’ meet:
Agoura 71, Newbury Park 63, Westlake 36--Sophomore Laura Jakosky, the 1998 Southern Section Division II cross-country champion, won the 800 in 2:28.9, the 1,600 in 5:21.6 and the 3,200 in 11:46.5 to help the Chargers (4-1, 3-1 in league meets) in the Marmonte League meet at Agoura.
BOYS’ TRACK
Newbury Park 107, Agoura 37, Westlake 25--Will Svitek won three events and senior Patrick Dolan placed first in two events to help the Panthers to victory in a Marmonte League meet at Agoura.
Svitek, a junior, won the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.6, the shotput at 52-4 1/4 and the discus at 145-10.
Dolan took the 400 in 53.2 and the 300 intermediate hurdles in 41.8 for Newbury Park (5-1, 3-0), the defending league champion.
Jermey Law, a junior, won the 800 in 2:03.8, the 1,600 in 4:37.9 and the 3,200 in 10:25.3 for Agoura (2-3, 1-3).
BOYS’ TENNIS
Hart 14, Canyon 4--Jesse Ferlianto (24-3) won all three sets at No. 1 singles and the Indians won a Foothill League match at Canyon.
At No. 2 doubles, Adam Davidson and Jeff Oyama (26-1) won all three sets for Hart (9-0, 2-0).
Burbank 17, Valencia 1--Sophomore Tigran Martirosyan led a singles sweep, winning his 25th, 26th and 27th sets of the season for the Bulldogs (7-2, 2-0) in a Foothill League match at Burbank.
Burbank plays at Hart today for first place.
“I hope this is an omen for the Hart match,” Coach Clyde Richards of Burbank said.
Burroughs 12, Saugus 6--Ilija Ognenovski swept at No. 1 singles and Jonah Stock swept at No. 2 singles for the Indians (5-4, 2-0) in a Foothill League match at Burroughs.
Glendale 10, Hoover 8--Ray Hong swept at No. 1 singles and Graham Nesas swept at No. 2 singles for the Dynamiters (6-5, 2-0) in a Pacific League victory at Hoover (5-3, 1-1).
Hong improved to 30-3.
BOYS’ GOLF
Notre Dame 206, Chaminade 214--Tommy Barber shot a one-over par 36 for to help the Knights (7-2, 4-0) win a Mission League match at Lakeside Country Club.
Nordhoff 363, Westlake 372--J.T. Kohut fired a two-under-par 67 in a nonleague match at Los Robles Golf Course.
Tommy Hajduk, a junior, shot a 69 for Nordhoff (10-4), which lost to Westlake (9-4) last week by one stroke.
Ventura 398, Moorpark 406, Royal 415--Zack King of Ventura shot a two-under par 69 to lead the Cougars (7-1) to a nonleague victory in a at Elkins Ranch Golf Course.
King, a junior, who had two chip-ins from more than 30 feet, was four under par at the turn.
