Initial U.S. jobless claims rose by 6,000 in the latest week to 301,000, the Labor Department said in a report that still suggested employment prospects for workers remained strong. Economists had been expecting a smaller increase. The closely watched four-week moving average, a less volatile figure, fell slightly, to 307,000 in the latest week from 307,500.
