Only the Lonely Need Sign Up for This Contest

The lonely Maytag Repairman, who, if television ad campaigns are to be believed, has had no friends and absolutely nothing to do for more than 30 years, may finally end his solitude. In conjunction with the launch of its new twin-oven Gemini range, Maytag is sponsoring an Ol’ Lonely Look-Alike Contest for those who resemble the enduring corporate mascot, as portrayed by actor Gordon Jump. The winner will receive $5,000 cash and a new Gemini range.

Contest applicants must send a 5-by-7 or 8-by-10 color portrait with name, address and phone number on the back. Entrants should include a brief explanation as to why he (or she) would make a good twin for the Maytag Repairman.

Entries must be postmarked by June 30 and should be mailed to: The Maytag Repairman Look-Alike Contest, in care of Leo Burnett Co., 35 W. Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL 60601.

The winner will be announced at the Twins Days Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio, Aug. 6-8.
