Sualua Helps Los Amigos Upset Pacifica
Los Amigos running back Aoatoa Sualua rushed for 233 yards in 37 carries Friday night to lead the Lobos to a 40-35 upset victory over Pacifica in a Garden Grove League game at Garden Grove High.
Sualua scored four times in the first half, on runs of 10, 10, five and 35 yards, to stake Los Amigos to a 34-7 third-quarter lead.
Pacifica’s lone score to that point came when Jeff Weber ran 65 yards with 8:46 left in the first quarter. But Los Amigos quarterback Richard Dinh retaliated with a 10-yard run five minutes later to get Los Amigos back on top, 14-7.
Sualua scored three straight times after that and Pacifica running back Ted Telemarque ran 74 yards to score just before halftime, pulling Pacifica within 34-14.
Joe Fuske scored on a 19-yard run, but Los Amigos’ Tui Soifua ran seven yards to make it 40-21.
Weber scored twice in the final quarter. First he grabbed a 12-yard pass from quarterback Joey Fuske with 3:53 to play. And the next time Pacifica touched the ball, Weber caught a 40-yard touchdown pass with 58 seconds left.
“We underestimated the other guys,” Pacifica Coach Bill Craven said. “We did not work as hard as we should have.”
Los Amigos Coach David Olsen was ecstatic.
“We were up against a tough team,” Olsen said. “We played as hard as we could and tried to keep our running game going.”
