LAGUNA BEACH
A smoke bomb was the cause of a fire Saturday that destroyed a children’s clubhouse and caused panic among nearby residents, according to the Laguna Beach Fire Department.
About 2:48 p.m., residents reported smoke coming from the backyard of a residence in the 900 block of Meadowlark Drive. The fire was brought under control by 3:05 p.m., officials said.
“It was a very small fire, which basically destroyed the clubhouse and burned some surrounding vegetation,” Laguna Beach Fire Battalion Chief Jeff LaTendresse said.
LaTendresse said two children were playing with smoke bombs in the wooden clubhouse.
