Three Hitters Lead Chapman to Victory
Jude Chavez, Alex Taylor and Eric Albright each drove in three runs as host Chapman defeated Occidental, 14-8, in baseball Tuesday.
Chavez hit his second home run of the season and Albright his fifth. The Panthers (18-4-1) took an 8-1 lead after three innings.
Eric Hayden (2-0) pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up four runs on five hits.
In another nonconference game:
Master’s 8, Concordia 3--Mike Ploharz, the NAIA Region II pitcher of the week, improved to 8-0, allowing two earned runs on seven hits to lead visiting Master’s (23-6).
Charles Chatman hit his 13th home run to set a season record for Concordia (22-16).
In Golden State Athletic Conference softball:
Concordia 2-7, Vanguard 0-1--Nicole Lev and Jennifer Miklos each had three hits and three RBIs to lead visiting Concordia in the second game. Christi Shankles pitched a three-hitter and struck out two in the win.
In the first game, Concordia (18-21, 7-11) scored both of its runs in the first inning, and Andrea Castillo pitched a three-hit shutout, striking out five for the victory.
Vanguard dropped to 18-23, 5-11.
