Seven Come in 11th and Canyons Wins
Nolan LeMar’s three-run home run highlighted a seven-run 11th inning and College of the Canyons defeated Ventura, 12-6, on Tuesday in a Western State Conference interdivisional game at Ventura.
The Pirates committed three of their five errors after LeMar’s blast.
Canyons (14-11, 10-6) tied the score, 5-5, in the ninth inning on Chris Mayberry’s two-out, two-run home run.
Valley 6, Santa Barbara 5--Kevin O’Hara’s run-scoring infield single in the eighth gave the Monarchs a WSC interdivisional victory at Valley.
Matt Schwartz scored from second on a throwing error earlier in the inning to tie the score.
O’Hara had four hits. Paul Ramirez and John Mort each had two hits for Valley.
SOFTBALL
Canyons 8, Valley 0--Kelly Presten pitched a one-hitter, struck out four and walked one for the Cougars in a WSC Southern Division victory that was called after six innings because of the eight-run rule.
Stephanie Blaire had three hits with two RBIs and scored a run for Canyons (29-5, 14-0).
Moorpark 6, Cuesta 1--Kim Whitcher had three run-scoring singles for the Musketeers (17-13, 9-5) in a WSC Northern Division game at Cuesta.
Glendale 14, Santa Monica 13--Julie Choi’s run-scoring single in the eighth gave the Vaqueros (10-13, 5-8) a WSC Southern Division victory at Scholl Park.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Santa Monica 6, Moorpark 3--Danielle Ouwendijk beat Tina Nili, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles and teamed with Humaira Mirza for a 6-2, 6-1 doubles victory but the Raiders lost a WSC match at Santa Monica.
