Disneyland Workers to Vote on Contract
Disneyland has offered maintenance workers a contract extending union representation to the company’s new adventure theme park in exchange for changes in their current contract, union officials said. About 800 Disneyland maintenance workers are expected to vote on the proposed contract Wednesday. The proposal would extend the current contract for two years, through February 2005, giving workers pay increases of 3% in each of its final two years, union officials said. It also would add a week of vacation for employees with 20 or more years of service. But the company would no longer pay to launder employees’ uniforms and would not provide lockers. Also, management would get greater flexibility in shifting workers to other tasks and more discretion in possible layoffs.
