Padilla Proposes Plan to Clean Up Trailer Park
Citing slum conditions in the Sundown Trailer Park, City Councilman Alex Padilla called Friday for the city Housing Department and building inspectors to take action to improve conditions in the San Fernando Road park.
Padilla said trailers in the park have no running water, electricity or heat and the area is infested with rats. The Sylmar park, Padilla said, “poses a public safety risk to the children and other residents. . . . “
Padilla introduced a motion to have the park placed into a rent escrow account program that allows rent to be diverted by the city for repairs and maintenance. He also asked the Housing Department to explore letting tenants of the park participate in the city’s home ownership assistance programs.
