Hosts Sought for Exchange Students
A foreign exchange program is looking for Ventura County families to host international students.
Through Academic Year in America, students spend a year living with a family and attending school in the United States.
The host families provide room and board for the international students, who come from such countries as Brazil, Germany and Japan.
The students, ages 15 to 18, are equipped with medical insurance and bring spending money.
“Each student . . . is the best and brightest ambassador of his or her home country,” said Terri Williams, director of Academic Year in America.
During their time in the United States, students have the opportunity to learn English, and experience American customs, traditions and holidays.
The program is sponsored by the American Institute for Foreign Study Foundation, a nonprofit group that helps place international students for short stays in the United States.
