Simi Valley Is Double Tough
The No. 2 doubles team of Brian Schnurle and Peter Boon of Simi Valley High rallied to defeat Thousand Oaks’ No. 1 team of Jason Korniski and Vivek Singh, 7-6 (7-5), to secure the Pioneers’ 10-8 victory in a Marmonte League match Friday at Thousand Oaks.
Thousand Oaks (9-3, 7-2 in league), ranked No. 3 in the region by The Times, played without singles starters Philip Sheng and Andrew Peterson, and without doubles players Jayme Reynolds, Darius Amiri and Eric Hsu.
Sheng, Reynolds and Hsu were out of town, Amiri has a broken finger and Peterson was ill. Junior varsity players filled in.
J.P. Agustin and Jeremiah Waggoner, and Chris Bui and Rudy Barajas swept at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, respectively, for unranked Simi Valley (10-5, 5-4).
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Granada Hills def. Chatsworth, 15-12, 15-11, 9-15, 15-12--Derek Saenz had 20 kills for Granada Hills (8-3, 3-3) in a West Valley League match at Chatsworth (7-4, 4-2).
