Curry Going to Oregon
Edniesha Curry, a two-time All-Big Sky Conference point guard for Cal State Northridge, will transfer to Oregon, where she will sit out one year before playing her senior season.
Curry, a former Times’ All-Valley player at Palmdale High, led Northridge to an NCAA tournament berth in 1998-99 but quit the team last season in a dispute with coaches.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
* Don McMaster, who had a 9-15 record at Westlake High last season, has been hired as coach at Oaks Christian High.
McMaster guided the Warriors to a record of 26-47, including a 10-28 mark in Marmonte League play, in three seasons.
SOCCER
* Kim Taylor of Chaminade High and Lisa Engel of Buena have been in England and Ireland with the Olympic Development Program’s girls’ under-16 West Regional team.
The team has a 2-1 record.
Taylor’s goal gave the U.S. a 1-1 tie with Southampton of the Women’s Premier League.
* The West Valley Soccer Club’s first Easter Soccer Camp is scheduled for Monday through Friday at Pierce College.
Another session will take place April 17-21. Cost is $100 for five days, or participants may attend Monday, Wednesday and Friday for $60, or Tuesday and Thursday for $40.
* California Youth Soccer Assn. Southern California Championship games will take place today and Sunday and continue April 15-16 at Lancaster Soccer Complex.
