Angels Aren’t That Good, but He’d Like to Hear Them

Thousand Oaks is a nice place to live. We have clean air, low crime, and traffic in the city is wonderful compared to Hollywood, where I work. But trying to pick up an Angel game on the radio is frustrating at best, and downright impossible at worst.

In the good old days, I could get the Dodgers on 50,000-watt KFI and the Angels on 50,000-watt KMPC. I knew that they would always be on these stations and I would always get a clear, strong signal at any time.

On Tuesday and Wednesday nights, the Angels were not broadcasting on KLAC because of Laker games. So, I tried to tune in KCTD 1540 (very weak and noisy), and KIK-FM 94.3 (nonexistent) to hear the game. I don’t understand as much Spanish as I used to, so listening to XPRS is out of the question.

Being an Angel fan is trying enough. We put up with the typical yearly collapses, numerous key injuries, long travel distances to the ballpark and outrageous parking fees. This year, it looks like the Lakers will go all the way to the finals, and because the Lakers get priority on KLAC, I’m going to be missing out on a lot of Angel games. It’s mind-boggling that Disney, with all its media outlets, can’t find a place for them on a nice high-powered station like they used to be.

Those Angel fans are something. How hospitable of them to give the Yankees a nice “home field” advantage at Edison Field. And, in the season-opening series no less. A lot of pride there.

Mike DiGiovanna tells us [April 4] that “after striking out pinch-hitter Orlando Palmeiro to open the inning, Gary DiSarcina flared a single to right, and Darin Erstad walked . . . “

I’m a little confused. Who struck out Palmeiro? Was it DiSarcina or Erstad?

After watching him bat with men on base, I am wondering: Is that Mo Vaughn or Sarah Vaughn?
