NEWPORT BEACH
The City Council last week unanimously voted to make official its effort to annex most of Santa Ana Heights.
In October, the council turned in an application to annex Bay Knolls, Newport Coast and east Santa Ana Heights.
The latest move covers the eastern two-thirds of the overall Santa Ana Heights area. The remainder is within Costa Mesa’s sphere of influence.
Some Santa Ana Heights residents are upset that their unique community would be divided by Costa Mesa and Newport Beach. However, council members tried to reassure them that the entire Santa Ana Heights area could be absorbed by Newport Beach.
