3 Soldiers Killed in Chechen Ambush
Rebel fighters ambushed a Russian convoy near the Chechen capital, Grozny, killing three soldiers and wounding 10 others, officials said. The ambush came a day after Russia’s top pro-Moscow civilian leader in Chechnya, Akhmad Kadyrov, said the rebels were too scattered to pose a threat. The attack occurred when two armored personnel carriers were passing through the village of Prigorodnoye, an official with the pro-Russian Chechen government said on condition of anonymity. Russian troops returned fire, and the battle continued for 40 minutes, the official said. It was not known if the rebels suffered losses.
