CSUN Class Includes Opportunity to Tutor
Cal State Northridge will offer a new course this fall that gives students a chance to mentor and tutor children in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Offered through the university’s Center for Community Service Learning, the course will require each student to spend 2 1/2 hours a week working one-on-one with children at one of 11 elementary and two middle schools in the Valley.
The college students will be required to keep regular journals of their experiences, write essays and take part in discussions.
“Community service is always tied to a discipline, but this gives students in all majors an opportunity to make a difference in the community,” said Maureen Rubin, director of CSUN’s Center for Community Service Learning.
The center was created in 1998 to inspire, encourage and support CSUN students and faculty in all areas to become involved in community service.
