Val Dufour; Actor in Various TV Soap Operas Since the 1950s

Val Dufour, 73, who earned an Emmy for his role as attorney John Wyatt on the soap opera “Search for Tomorrow.” Born Albert Valery in New Orleans, the actor earned the statuette as outstanding actor in a daytime television drama series in the 1976-77 season. He was also well-remembered for his long-running role as Walter Curtain on the soap opera “Another World.” A familiar face on daytime television since the medium’s early years, Dufour appeared in “The Doctor” in the early 1950s and “First Love” in the mid-1950s and later in ‘The Edge of Night.” After attending Louisiana State University and Catholic University in Washington, D.C., Dufour studied with Uta Hagen and at the Actors Studio in New York City. He made his Broadway debut in “High Button Shoes” and had stage roles in “The Grass Harp,” “South Pacific,” “Picnic,” “Mister Roberts” and “Stalag 17.” Dufour spent seven years in Hollywood, appearing in such western television series as “Gunsmoke” and “Have Gun Will Travel” and in motion pictures including “Ben Hur” and “King of Kings.” On July 27 in Manhattan.
