Tetelboin Signs With Missouri

Former Grant High shortstop Felipe Tetelboin has accepted a scholarship to Missouri.

Tetelboin hit .512 with 12 doubles and 37 runs batted in last season.

He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 47th round of the amateur draft in June.

TENNIS

* Lester Cook of Sherman Oaks advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Tennis Assn. Junior International Grass Court Championships with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Vinod Sewa of India on Thursday at the Philadelphia Cricket Club in Philadelphia.

Cook trailed, 5-4, 40-0 in the first set.

Wednesday, Cook beat Ikaika Jobe of Honolulu, 6-4, 6-3, in the round of 16 and defeated Conner Murninghan of Glenview, Ill., 7-5, 6-2, in the round of 32.

VOLLEYBALL

* The U.S. Youth Volleyball League is holding registration for an eight-week instructional league for players 8-14 at Balboa Recreation Center in Encino.

* A funeral service for Jerry Cord, former Poly High teacher, baseball coach and administrator, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oakwood West funeral home in Chatsworth.

* Rusty Rothenberg of Westlake Village won the Men 3 national jumping title and tied the national class record with a jump of 168 feet Thursday at the 2000 Goode National Championships at Paradise Lakes Estates and Ski West Village in Bakersfield.
